There are few places as magical as Lago di Braies in the heart of the Dolomites. With its turquoise water, dramatic mountain backdrop and peaceful atmosphere, it has become one of the most beautiful proposal locations in South Tyrol. As photographers, we’ve had the chance to quietly document several surprise proposals here, and every single one felt unique.

Choosing the right time

The lake can get busy during the day, especially in summer. For a more intimate atmosphere, we usually recommend early morning or late afternoon. The light is softer, the surroundings are calmer and the experience feels much more personal.

Keeping the surprise

One of the most common concerns is: “How do I make sure she doesn’t notice the photographer?”
The answer is simple: we stay in the background. Most couples never realize we’re there until after the proposal.

What happens after the proposal?

Once the big moment is over, we usually take some time for a relaxed couple session around the lake.
Nothing forced. Nothing overly posed.
Just the two of you enjoying the moment.

What if the weather changes?

The Dolomites are beautiful in every season and almost every weather condition. Clouds, light rain or mist can create an incredibly romantic atmosphere and often lead to some of our favourite images.
